He was born on October 20, 1954, in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, and started playing the violin at the age of eight. After high school, Sabien attended Berklee College of Music in Boston and later earned a Masters degree in Music from the University of Miami.

Sabien has performed and recorded with many notable musicians, including Bela Fleck, Phil Upchurch, and Jethro Burns. He has also released numerous albums, both as a solo artist and with his band, The Fiddlehead Band. Sabien's music is a blend of jazz, rock, and blues, and he is known for his unique style that incorporates traditional fiddling techniques with modern jazz improvisation.
